7 Generations Thinking
The phrase known as the 7 Generation Principle, or what I call 7 Generations Thinking, is about how we live, how we do things, and how we make decisions that will have an impact 7 generations away. The healing, the changes, the growth, and the protection we put in place for the land and our resources will create the world they will take over.
This powerful philosophy comes from the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, also known as the Iroquois Confederacy or the League of Five Nations, which is recognized as one of the oldest participatory democracies on Earth.
The principle reminds us of our deep connection to both our ancestors and future generations. It urges us to honor those who came before us while recognizing our responsibility to those who have not yet come.
The first written concepts surrounding the principle of seven generations can be traced back to the Great Peace Act, with estimates placing its origins between 1142 and 1500 AD. This means that this is not a passing trend - this is ancient wisdom with lasting relevance.
I will delve into the description of the principle in a series of articles.
